Requirements to run Universal Capture - Personal
Download and install Echo360 Personal Capture software (PCAP) Echo360 Personal Capture is a stand-alone application that runs on either Windows or Mac, and allows you to create recordings to supplement in-class materials. Creating recordings is as simple as selecting the inputs and clicking Record. You can edit the recording. Go to any of your iLearn units and click the Echo360 block. Click the Settings menu and select Downloads. Select the Mac or Windows version to download. The installer must be run locally so save the file to your computer. Locate the downloaded installer file. On the warning message that appears, click Open.
Select Echo360 from the left-hand navigation. Select Create and New Capture. Select the Mac or Windows Download option from the Univeral Capture website. Begin the installation from your browsers download folder and follow the prompts to complete the Echo360 installation. To download the Echo360 Universal Capture software: Navigate to echo360.umass.edu and log in with your NetID and password. The Echo360 Library page will open. On the Echo360 Library page, select Settings (the gear icon) and then select choose Download, On the Downloads page, select the version of the software for your computer (Mac or Windows). Click the Settings menu to open it and select Downloads, as shown in the below figure. Click the Mac Download link from the Personal Capture section of the Downloads page, shown below.
Windows requirement:
- Windows 10 (64 bit) or higher
Universal Capture is only supported for use with the 64-bit version of Windows 10. If you attempt to install Universal Capture on a 32-bit system you will encounter the following error
How to Download Universal Capture - Personal
PC Users:
- Echo360 Universal Capture - Personal can be download from the Software Centre for Windows.
- Click on the windows icon (start button) in bottom left hand corner of screen - This will open the Applications page.
- Click on the blue icon titled Software Centre.
- UNI-Echo360 Universal Capture will appear in the list of Applications.
- Click on UNI-Echo360 Universal Capture icon.

Click on Install.

MAC Requirements:
Universal Capture for the Mac has been updated to support Big Sur (macOS 11.0).
NOTE: Big Sur requires Administrators to allow applications to capture the Desktop
Minimum requirement for macOS is Version 10.14 (Mojave)
Mac users:
- Echo360 Universal Capture - Personal can be download from the Mac Self-Service area.
- Click on the rocket icon called the Launch pad
- Locate the icon titled Self Service
- You may need to sign in
- Echo360 app will be shown on the left hand side

Using Universal Capture - Personal
The most efficient approach is to use Echo360 Online to both record and host the video. This guide takes you through the steps for this, and then for presenting the video within MyLO.
Echo360 Online
- Open Echo360 Universal Capture - Personal
- Set up the microphone, display, and webcam as you require
- Click on Edit capture details and enter a Title for the video and where you wish to publish to - note if you do not select a unit your recording will automatically publish to your Echo360 library.
- Click Record
- After a five-second countdown it will start recording from every input you specified above and will minimise to your toolbar.
- Once you have finished your recording open the software from the toolbar
- Press the Stop button ( ) - Upload in Progress will show
- Recording will now be added to library and your unit, if selected.
- Your personal library
- Do not delete recordings from your Library if you have them in a unit as this will remove them from there also.
- You can store videos here to be used in a unit at a later date
- Your recordings will remain in your library even if you publish to a unit.

Please note: Echo360 Capture for Mac has a minimum system requirement of macOS 10.14 (Mojave) or higher.
Download Echo360 Video
- Navigate to the Echo360 library in your Brightspace course (found under Course Tools) and select Create and then New Capture from the dropdown menu.
- You will be redirected to an Echo360 Universal Capture launch page where you can select Mac Download to begin downloading the installer.
- Once the installer has downloaded, double-click the installer and follow the Echo360 Universal Capture installation instructions.
- Accept the license agreement and continue through the rest of the steps to complete the installation. Once the installation is complete, you can press ‘Close’ and move the Installer to the trash.
- You will be able to locate and launch Echo360 Universal Capture by selecting the Applications icon in the bottom-left of your screen and selecting the Echo360 Capture application.
- Once Echo360 Universal Capture has launched, you will be prompted to open System Preferences to change your Security and Privacy Settings.
- Press the lock icon to make changes, enter your password, select/check the box for the ‘Echo360 Capture’ application and press ‘Quit now’ when prompted. After doing so, close the lock icon by clicking it once more to prevent further changes from being made.
- Now that your System Preferences have been configured, re-launch Echo360 Universal Capture by once again selecting the Applications icon in the bottom-left of your screen and selecting the Echo360 Capture application.
- Once Echo360 Universal Capture has launched, select 'Click here to login'. You may be redirected back to Brightspace or to UVic Single Sign On to sign in with your NetLink ID.
- If prompted, select Open Echo360 Capture.
- You will now be signed into Echo360 Universal Capture.
